Cake!

I was very, very pleased with how the cake came out. Not that you can tell by the number of photos of it I've included ;-) The bottom layer is chocolate brownie cake with buttercream frosting; the middle layer is cheesecake; the top layer is pound cake with buttercream frosting.

Chris made the cake stand, with an eye to reusability: the blue is ribbon wrapped around it, so we can wrap other colors around it for other festivities (red, white, and blue; red and green; etc) at more ordinary family events. The bottom tier holds a 13" round cake, as shown, or a 9" square cake, which is what Susan will often make. The top worked out very well for holding some cupcakes at our Independence Day party.

If I had it to do over again, I'd use blue ribbon on the middle cake instead of silver - planning it out in my head, I didn't take into account the silver cake board & silver platform. And I'd use less frosting on the bottom tier. *coff* More on that later.

But all in all, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, and I think others were happy enough with it, too.
