Black beans with bacon, yellow rice, and salad; more tomato soup spice cake for dessert. Black beans with bacon, yellow rice, and salad; more tomato soup spice cake for dessert.

Chris cooked tonight. About 5:30pm or so, I came down with a massive headache, and went to seek refuge in the quiet darkness of the bedroom. Chris made sure I had everything I wanted (though he wouldn't decapitate me, despite my request), and commenced preparing supper. My man is awesome like that.

Anyhow, this dish, despite the person who presented the original recipe mentioning how good it was, and that they usually have it about three times a month, was only mediocre to us. The original called for a package of yellow rice; I decided we'd make yellow rice ourselves instead. So I found a few recipes, and picked one, and we tried it. It was alright, but less flavorful than I'd expected; Chris blamed the saffron; I don't know, what I'd read about saffron said that the stuff can keep for years. Enh. I've never had any saffron before, as far as I know, so I can't really tell what it's supposed to be like. I believe a trip to Penzeys is in my medium future.

The bean dish was also only mediocre. Both became pretty decent when we added soy sauce to the rice and mixed it all together, though. I don't know if we'll try this one again or not.

The tomato soup spice cake wasn't as good tonight. I think the aliens must have left my body. Threw out the rest; don't think it'd be good for the ducks. Ah, well, never would have known unless we tried!
