Jambalaya with salad; chocolate cake for dessert. Jambalaya with salad, mine with ranch dressing. For dessert, chocolate cake.

This jambalaya was Cajun, or brown, or stock-based, rather than the Creole/red/tomato-based kind I've ever had before. I'd wanted to give it a try, but must admit I'm partial to the red jambalaya. Not bad, and certainly spicy enough, but it seemed lacking flavor, in a way. I used less chicken and added smoked sausage, as I've been having a hankering for smoked sausage lately.

The ranch dressing was a fail. It needed the spices and herbs quadrupling for my taste to begin with, which isn't bad in and of itself. It failed because it left a bad taste in my mouth. *sigh* Really surprises me, considering who supplied it - I usually have nothing but success with her recipes. Ah, well; win some, lose some.

The chocolate cake is a keeper, I think. Improvised tube pan and all ;-) Moist, delicious, chocolatey - what more can one ask of chocolate cake? :-) Been wanting some chocolate cake for awhile, too, so I'm glad this worked out.
