Dad once asked me if they grow much around here, with the shortened summer. Dad, you see, grew up on a farm in Kansas. Since they have very little or no yard here, the vast majority of the time, the county or city (I'm not really sure who) sets aside some land to be made into "allotments" for anyone interested. These are some. I'm not sure if there's a cost to them or not, but I do know the waiting list is rather long: once they're gotten, they tend to stay gotten until the person moves or dies, I suspect. They don't come with the greenhouses, I note, those were built by the people holding the allotments, so you can tell how long-term this arrangement is for them.
