They have these right-of-ways all over here, letting anybody walk through other peoples' property .. the right-of-ways are ancient, though, and far predate any person alive today, or their grandparents even, for the most part, I'm told. And it's really cool to be able to really get into the country and enjoy it, rather than necessarily having to stick to the roads (where you always risk a driver mowing you down on these one-lane roads). They have rules, of course: don't litter, keep your dog on a leash particularly at lambing and nesting time, etc. The rules are on the back of all of these signs.
